I am a very process oriented person. I am not spontaneous or slap dash. I struggle making "ugly art". When I participate in online or live workshops I am uncomfortable when sloppiness is part of the program. I just don't get it. As a result, I tend to shy away from opportunities that are labeled freeing but for me it fees like they lack foundational skills and substance. As a result, I work in my studio, alone, and create within the parameters that are comfortable for me. Am I missing out? Good question.
Hi Daria. What a great question. I’ve never thought of that. I’m the totally intuitive person who doesn’t necessarily use process. It shows often. I find when I use these processes they stifle my creativity. I think it’s wonderful that it OK in an artist community to be both and not be judged for it. We find our creative energy by going down different paths. Having a process is a good thing. Enjoy it! Fine tune it to your liking and create, create create. My thoughts. 😊
Kathy, I hope I didn't come off as harsh! I struggle with intuitive work and really admire people who are free enough to create something that flows and lacks rigidity. I think my issue is mine alone...whenever I try to do something intuitive it just seems to end up being a mess!
No you did not come off rude at all. I just wanted you to know that the way you create is yours alone. I hope you continue your art journey and find your own way.
I think I suffer more from not making time for my creativity. If it's there I can't tell because I don't take the time to explore it. This project has given me a great opportunity to embrace it and make it a structured part of my life for 100 days -- and who knows, maybe longer. Maybe forever! I am really looking forward to tomorrow's Creative Playshop :-)
