[Technical glitch! This was supposed to go out this morning – apologies if you didn’t receive it, and apologies if you’ve gotten it twice.]
Hi Artists,
Sometimes people start the project off with a set of parameters – maybe it’s very specific, maybe it’s broad – and in the course of doing the project, the parameters that their creative self wants or needs shift.
For example, maybe you started off with 4X6 paper, a clear theme, and specific materials. As you’ve shown up every day, you’ve evolved. Maybe your creative self wants a bigger sheet of paper. But it’s not the “rules” you made for your project! What do you do?
Get a bigger sheet of paper.
And if you started off with a loose theme, perhaps you’re finding yourself gravitating towards one thing more than other things.
Let yourself commit to one thing.
I don’t think changing the rules midway way is counter to the project. You don’t have to stick to just practicing scales if you’re ready to write a song.
Parameters and repetition are part of how we build skill and discipline, and as we grow it’s normal for them to shift so that we can develop new skills and a new kind of discipline, with more or less or new or different rules.
Congratulations to all of you on the progress you’ve made, and thank you to the friends of the project who are cheering everyone on.
In the comments, I’d love for you to share:
one word that describes your first 50 days, and
a word or intention for the second half of the project,
Remember that wherever you are is perfect, however many days it takes you is perfect, and any day is a great day to adjust course. If you’re free tomorrow, I’d love to see you at the midway reflection and celebration – it’ll be a great way to recommit to your project and design the “rules” moving forward.
KEEP GOING! I believe in you 💓
XO,
LJT
